University of Puerto Rico Strike Events The Press Does Not Cover

As many of you know and I wrote in my previous post that the University of Puerto Rico is on Strike.

The University of Puerto Rico Strike enters its second Week

The Rio Piedras campus begins its second week of a strike protesting the significant cuts which would make the University lose its Accreditation.

The story goes a lot further than just the University; we know that if the University is privatized, it opens the doors for other universities which are already profit making machines to raise their tuition and continue making lifelong slaves due to the high cost of education and end up taking loans to study.

The Side the Mass Media of Puerto Rico Press Does not Cover

Last week I got a bit fatigued at seeing smart folks, who were lazy, sharing content with just part of the facts. Instead of focusing the attention on the overall efforts, most individuals are lazy, read what the media wants them to believe and share it forward.

Having visited the University and knowing how much effort is going into trying to save the University of Puerto Rico, it did bother me. But instead of sitting on my butt, I decided to visit the university the next day and get a first-hand perspective on what is going on from those directly affected.

Getting ready to play ball.

A time to Refresh and Keep Morale High

As an entrepreneur and once a Non-Commissioned Officer in the Army, I learned the importance of keeping morale high.
In order for the students to maintain the morale high and show their commitment to the community, they decided to create a series of events that would invite the community to visit the university.

Of course, since this would not cause any drama needed to increase ratings and make the student's efforts look bad, the absence of the local mass media outlets was evident.

However, to show you my perspective on how these students are doing a great job, I took my family and covered some of the events with my camera lens and a few videos.

My Compliments to the Organization of the University of Puerto Rico Students

My daughter was able to enjoy some painting sessions with other kids.

Most kids painted the University of Puerto Rico Main Tower and others focused on multiple variations of the Puerto Rico flag. It was great to see how on a hot tropical spring afternoon everyone under the shade of trees collaborated and created their own art.

Sergio Marichal's Storytelling was Memorable

Sergio Marichal used unique storytelling techniques to capture the attention of a crowd of young kids and their families. Sergio is doing his Masters in Psychology at the University of Puerto Rico.

Once the Storytelling ended, we went over to enjoy a game of Kickball and other activities that were for the community of all ages.

We saw the murals reflecting the current situation. The students shared their food while they camp out at the University of Puerto Rico.

The University of Puerto Rico Students should serve as Inspiration to All

It's inspiring to watch these students come together and work towards solving the many problems the University of Puerto Rico is facing.

Many of the problems that the whole Island will face are due to an imposed Fiscal Board that are a bunch of wealthy bankers. Their friends are making more money and not holding those accountable for the debt.

These same individuals on the board talk about sacrifices while they enjoy expensive trips and make in a few months the equivalent of what any professionals would make in a lifetime.

I walk around the many efforts of activism on the Island, and it is evident that we have been making sacrifices to improve Puerto

The majority of students sacrifice themselves to contribute to improving our communities and our Island.

A minority of bankers ask us to sacrifice so they can continue getting wealthier.

As a human with profound values which side are you on?
