Read Quality not Quantity

Just my Type

These past two years I have found myself not reading as many books as I use to read. When I started publishing at least 12+ blogs posts per week, I had to sacrifice my reading for creating. I got very caught up in creating larger volumes of content. Over time I identified the need to slow down and focus on delivering quality vs. quantity. For this same reason I am creating less content expecting it to be of better quality (I will let you be the judge in the comments area).

From Employee to Owner

In the transition from being an employee, to starting CIMA IT, and becoming a real world business owner, I read Neal Gabler’s Biography of Walt Disney. In this book he explained how Walt would disconnect himself and not read or pay attention to what others were doing. This might be the reason why so much of what Walt created is still relevant. He invested all that time and resources into creating what mant see as his legacy.

I love reading

I am passionate about reading especially when a book catches my attention; I don’t want to put it down. I have known to schedule a full day so I can finish a good book.

The amounts of content I consume online definitely take away from the time I have to read a book. I have been trying to change that again these past few months by going to the beach and disconnecting a bit from online content during the afternoon.

Only Finish reading good Books

I use to force myself into reading books once I started them. I guess I felt like I did not want to quit what I had started. A few months ago reading Chris Brogan’s and Julien Smith’s Impact Equation where I finally realized I have to stop reading bad books.

In the book Chris and Julien advise us to let go of a book you think is not good, drop it, and move onto something else. There are so many good books you won’t be able to read in a lifetime, why invest time in books which are not interesting to you?

Creating

Months ago I had my cousin Berni Xiong ask me if I was going to create a Manifesto like the awesome Manifesto created and published by the talented writer A.J. Leon.

Before that I was reviewing the drafts of my friend Robbie Vorhaus‘ book and we exchanged an email where he suggested I create a book or a project that would become part of my life’s body of work.

Looking back into Walt Disney’s Biography The Triumph of the American Imagination (Affiliate Link) Photos of Raul Colon Web Developer Puerto Ricoand how he made sure he created more than he consumed, I have to start applying this in 2013.

Typing this also reminds me I have to look back at my 3 words and make sure I apply them daily.

What have you been doing? Are you creating or consuming more?

P.S. – Just recently we created two new services. One is to help individuals with getting a business idea or project out of the planning stages and into the creation of a service, product, or new business.

The other one is for those individuals who feel like they need to improve their LinkedIn profile or any other social profile for business or individual purposes. Feel free to contact me directly if you are interested.
