Another iPad 2 Cracked Screen

Photos of Raul Colon Web Developer Puerto Rico

Reviewing my comments I had someone else have the same experience as I did with the Ipad 2.

I got my iPad replaced but can’t wait till I get a sturdy case for it because I know that if I drop it once it will not survive.

Have you heard of any more stories like ours?

I am currently using the iPad 2 Defender Series Case which I received as a complimentary review sample and I highly recommend it

I had the same problem, I am an owner of the first iPad and dropped it several times, as well as, my nephew putting it on the floor and jumping on it, never cracked/broke. I had the iPad 2 for 3 days, didnt have a chance to get a sturdy case yet, dropped a small distance(out of the lap while sitting) and the screen cracked. It is not sturdier then the iPad 1 as the state,

I had the exact same problem! It cracked in the same places and the right hand side had that big gouge and had some chips of glass come out too. I’m very disappointed in the glass on the iPad2.

I am also very disappointed. Feel free to take the post an use it as an example to get it replaced.

Which site did you use to repair your iPad 2?

    • Raul Colon on April 22, 2011 at 3:38 am

I had it replaced at apple store for no charge.

  6. Bad Smart Cover on April 30, 2011 at 6:33 pm

I dropped mine the same way as in the video. I had the smart cover on. It fell about two feet onto a tile floor. The screen shattered. It actually looked kind of pretty. I called Apple and they replaced it for me at no cost.

It wasn’t easy though. I had to plead my case for an hour. They also warned me that this was a once in a lifetime thing.

DON’T buy the Smart Cover, it offers no protection.

I think it’s worse because it offers a false sense of security and and often the case will pop off and you’ll lose your grip on the iPad.

As soon as they gave me my replacement iPad, I bought an Incase cover. I’m going to get the Otterbox case whenever it comes out.

My ipad was exchanged also not sure if you saw the other post on the Cracked Ipad but many have not been as lucky as you and me.

I went ahead and also bought a case that covers the outside. not sure what I will do with my Smart Cover.

      Thanks for sharing your experience.

all the other devices that you mentioned are not even in the same category as the iPad, have you tried dropping a blackberry playbook, motorola xoom, or samsung galaxy tab? without a comparison, your point of giving the iPad a “design defect” is absurd.

Comparing the type and size of glass, of course the iPad 2 will make noticeable damage. I understand your frustration, as i myself have dropped my own iPhone the first day without getting help from apple or my carrier and had a third party fix the broken glass.

It is not all apples fault, you need to understand that the SmartCover is just a “cover” as apple have advertised, they did not advertise it as a guard case (like otterbox). If you feared about making this accident, you should of bought a protective case, which would have cost the same as the Smart Cover.

Perhaps, rather than getting this repair at apple, buy a repair manual + kit from iFixit, that way you may end up saving more money and invest in a better protective case such as Otterbox.

      Erwin,

When I bought my Ipad there where no protective covers. I respect your opinion but the Word Cover pretty much implies it will cover the product or protect it. I think the Ipad should be able to survive a small drop or two.

Check your facts so you can see that Otterbox does take a while when creating a case.

If you understand my frustration maybe you should step away from being an Apple Fan and understand how impractical this one.

Dropped my iPad 2 a few hours after I got it, cracked the glass pretty bad, apple replaced it for free. Have to say that I’ve dropped the iPad 1 a few times and nothing happened to it. The smart covet doesn’t protect at all!

    • Raul Colon on May 10, 2011 at 12:54 pm

      Angie,

I am so happy that Apple replaced it for free if you look at the other posts about when my Ipad Dropped you can see many people had to pay to get it replaced. Thanks for stopping by. Are You planning or did you get it a case already.

Our Ipad 2 screen broke after being only dropped once as well.

    • Phil Miller on July 12, 2011 at 10:53 pm

Forgot to add that we have had two original Ipads that have been dropped and thrown by our 6 year old child with autism.  While one did have a tiny chip out of its corner it did not break in several long cracks covering most of the screen.  My advice is that if you want one for rough use, to buy a remaining or refurb ipad 1.

Hey I have the same problem! Yesterday I dropped my Aunt’s iPad onto the backyard, and now it has a small bump on the top right corner followed by 3 visible cracks on the screen. However, the iPad is still working fine though. My concern is, will Apple store fix/replace this iPad for free?

    • Raul Colon on September 29, 2011 at 12:19 pm

How long ago did you buy it? Give it a try and explain your situation. If you look at the threads you can see other have gotten there iPad’s replace.

      • Joshua on September 29, 2011 at 6:13 pm

It was bought just this July 2011. Any comments? Some sources said Apple will charge it if the damage was a cause of negligence. Some sources that I’ve read though said that Apple replaced it for free. I’m really perplexed.
