Fighting for Equality & Never Forgetting We’re All Human

We are in the middle of the Holiday season although if you live in Puerto Rico Like me we are only starting part of Longest Holiday Season in the World.

Many individual during the holiday season forget the true spirit of celebrating the holidays. Their definition of the Holidays is going on as many shopping sprees as their pockets can handle making holiday season lose its essence.

Forgetting we are All Human

One of the most obvious things I see many forget is the fact that no matter who we are, what are our beliefs are, let it be religious beliefs, political affiliations, gender, or even sexual orientation the only thing we all have in common is that we are all human.

Equality in All Aspects

Looking into a video that was published on moveon.org titled “Mitt Romney Gets His Ass Handed To Him By A Gay Veteran”, a Gay Vietnam Veteran” asking Mitt Romney some questions on Gay Marriage and Equality. I found it curious that since at the beginning since Mitt Romney identified him as a service member he quickly wanted to engage with him. Every politician knows they need to show respect for those combat veterans who have served our country. As an ex service member I show my respect for the veterans I admire every chance I get. Mitt Romney is taken off guard when the veteran asked him if he would support Gay marriage. Mitt Romney gave him a straight answer and told him that he was completely against it.

I don’t want to get into politics but the U.S. does claim to have a separation between government and state and Mitt Romney’s stance is more on the religious side. I am not sure how any politician can deny benefits to those Gay Service Members who served their country and have done more than many politicians like Mitt Romney himself. Maybe if those Gay Service Members had the money to lobby and push the laws it would not be so much of an issue and they would get the rights they deserve.

Getting back to the human aspect I clearly can’t understand how someone can make judgment on the feelings of any individual. It is sad enough that many service members put their lives on the line for the security of the U.S. and U.S. interests. I am still not sure why gay service members have little to no rights. Little by little they have gained ground but having someone like Mitt Romney as president or in another leadership role in government would only set back a few of those advancements. I will let you make your own judgment by watching the video:

Bankers are Human Too

Before I watched the previous video I was able to view a video of a Flash Mob in San Francisco from the Occupy Movement which my good friend and mentor Ramon Morales shared on Facebook. Out of the all the flash mobs what I really liked about the video was the message of unity and how they projected the character dressed as a banker to be human just like you and me.

Unity instead a Good Vs. Evil Battle

I have to say that maybe if this approach was used for many of the other messages instead of a battle of Good vs. Evil the movement might even get more leverage than it already has. In my opinion using this approach will not change the mind of those bankers who constantly take advantage of others but it will clearly unite those who are undecided and are against reckless behavior in Wall Street. I think this road will make the movement that I think has a good cause to get stronger and bring everyone together towards fixing some of Wall Streets issues that affect Main Street.

We are all Human

I remember in 1999 I bought a book titled the Art Of Happiness co-written by the Dalai Lama. One of the lines that I will never forget from the book was the aspect of how as human being we are always trying or inclining to divide ourselves.

We start from the what we all have in common which is being human from there we normally get classified as race, nationality, religion, state we are divide hometown, section of town, favorite sports team, gender, sexual preference, age, and the list can go on and on. If we can clearly remember to classify everyone around us as humans something that as humans we forget the world might be a better place.

So this holiday season give it your best try into detaching yourself from the material things and make sure that you are celebrating humanity at its best!

Let’s never give up on the Fight for Equality & the Human Race !
